Top 10 UP Poll Promises from Samajwadi Party-Free Electricity, Jobs

On Tuesday, the Samajwadi Party, like its competitors, the BJP, issued its platform for the Assembly election- 2022 Uttar Pradesh, focusing on ‘freebies’ for employment and farmers’ promises. The agenda was announced just hours after the 2022 Sankalp Patra, BJP’s version, was released.

Top 10 UP Poll Promises

  • The huge promises announced within Lucknow by Akhilesh Yadav, party leader, include one crore jobs throughout the MSME sector and another 22 lakh within the IT sector.
  • Mr Yadav also vowed to fulfil all vacancies inside the UP government’s Education Department & give women 33 % of government posts.
  • Importantly, the party has stated that education for ladies will be free (until the post-graduate stage).
  • According to the Samajwadi Party, farmers would be free of debt accumulated by obtaining loans by 2025, which has also guaranteed free energy (for irrigation).
  • Farmers with less than two acres of landholdings will also receive free fertilizers, including two bags of DAP and five sacks of urea.
  • Every year, every BPL (below the poverty line) family shall receive 2 free LPG cylinders.
  • Each month, auto-rickshaw drivers and two-wheeler owners shall receive three and one liters of free gasoline, respectively.

The BJP manifesto was unveiled this morning by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with promises of free energy for farmers plus jobs for at least 1 person of every family. The ruling party, such as Mr Yadav, also handed us cooking gas in the form of two complimentary LPG cylinders.

At a BJP rally, Amit Shah took a swipe at Akhilesh Yadav, saying, “A few days ago Akhilesh Yadav waved our 2017 Sankalp Patra (manifesto) and asked what we did… I can say with pride that 92 percent of our 212 pledges have been fulfilled…”

Mr Yadav retaliated by saying, “They have not done anything. You take their earlier manifesto and see how much they fulfilled. They should have observed two minutes’ silences in mourning… BJP only makes imaginary claims. Our promises come with solid prep and data,” he said.

A seven-phase poll shall begin on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh to elect a new administration. On March 10, the election result shall be declared.
