No 3rd Season for Sacred Games: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who rose to prominence thanks to his role in Sacred Games, told me in an interview that a second season of the critically praised Netflix series is unlikely.

Anurag Kashyap’s strong stand against rumours regarding season 3 of Netflix’s monstrously longevous shows Sacred Games is praiseworthy. Kashyap is adamant that the show has its say and also that the storyline will not be stretched any further only because Netflix is promising him the moon (about 100 crores) for yet another set of Sacred Games.

Season 3 has a slim possibility of happening, according to Nawaz. “Whatever had to be said from the original novel has already been said. There is nothing left in Vikram Chandra’s novel to be put in Season 3,” Nawaz confesses that his Sacred Games character and words were really popular.

What does Nawazuddin Siddiqui say?

“Sacred Games got the kind of worldwide acclaim that none of us associated with the series had seen before. I remember shooting in Rome for Tannishtha Chatterjee’s film, and over there too; there were so many people talking to me about the show. So we all felt it was right to do it again, and we did a second season,” says Nawaz.

“When I did Sacred Games for Netflix, there was an excitement and challenge around the digital medium. New talent was being given a chance, now that freshness is gone. It’s become Dhanda (racket) for big production houses and actors who are now so-called stars on the OTT platform. Major film producers in Bollywood have cut lucrative deals with all the big players in the OTT field. Producers get whopping amounts to create unlimited content. The quantity has killed quality,” says Nawaz sadly.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has rued about the quality of shows on OTT and called the digital platform a “dumping ground for redundant shows.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his OTT debut with Netflix’s Sacred Games, which premiered in 2018 and was followed by the second season in 2020. Following that, Nawazuddin featured in several critically acclaimed films, including Ghoomketu, Raat Akeli Hai, and Serious Men, which were released exclusively on digital platforms.
